In the Mirabel episode of "Dwight in Shining Armor" we were tasked to create a vaporous apparition, haunting the school dance. In her grand entrance, the apparition needed to rise up out of a cloud of smoke and take the solid form of a girl. This would require a transition from a CG cloud of smoke to a live-action actor.

To do this, we scanned the actor as well as the floor of debris that her smoke cloud would travel across. In this way we could use a proxy which was close in shape to the actress to shed smoke into the room. And with the floor scan we could roll that smoke over the physical debris in the shot.
