For the Season 2 finale of "Dwight in Shining Armor" we needed to create an evil aura that would seep out of a bone from a long since dead demon and infect the hand of an artifacts collector named Mr Dale.

After discussion with the show creators, we wanted to create a consistent visual motif to represent this evil force as it would appear in the show many times. We came up with the idea of black tendrils of smoke that would emanate from any of the demon artifacts and attack a nearby humans host.

To do this, we crafted a fluid simulation with tendrils that we could direct and animate to give their movement a bit of consciousness. For the human infection we wanted black veins to grow across their skin. To create this, we built a proxy model of Mr. Dales hand and created an animated growth of veins across its surface.
